The Companions are an ancient guild of warriors based in Jorrvaskr, the great mead hall in Whiterun. They trace their history all the way back to Ysgramor and his Five Hundred Companions, and today they take paid work across Skyrim – clearing out bandits, hunting beasts and settling disputes with their fists.
How to join
Go to Jorrvaskr and ask to join. The Harbinger, Kodlak Whitemane, sends you outside to show Vilkas what you can do in a quick sparring match (“Take Up Arms”). Pass, and you are a Whelp – a new member who has to prove themselves.
The Circle
At the heart of the Companions is The Circle, the most experienced warriors of the guild: Aela the Huntress, Farkas, Vilkas, Skjor and Kodlak himself. They share a secret that has been part of the guild for generations – they are werewolves.
The questline
The Companions’ story takes you from proving yourself as a Whelp to joining The Circle, facing the Silver Hand – werewolf hunters who want the Companions dead – and finally deciding the fate of Kodlak’s soul in “Glory of the Dead”.
Good to know
- Eorlund Gray-Mane works the ancient Skyforge behind Jorrvaskr and crafts some of the best steel weapons in Skyrim.
