Jon Battle-Born is a Nord from the Battle-Born clan of Whiterun, the city’s staunchly Imperial family. He is the son of Bergritte and brother of Alfhild, but he is not much of a warmonger. Jon would rather write poetry than swing swords, and his heart belongs to someone from the rival family.
Where to find them
He is often around Belethor‘s General Goods in town, and in the evening he may turn up at the Bannered Mare.
Quests
Missing in Action – instead of breaking into the Battle-Born house for evidence, you can pickpocket a letter from Olfina Gray-Mane off him. Confront him with it, and to protect their secret he agrees to bring you the Imperial missive at the statue of Talos.
Personality & relationships
Jon thinks Skyrim has become obsessed with death and has forgotten humour, poetry and romance. He hopes his parents will let him attend the Bards College, and quietly admits he would love to escape the war with Olfina at his side. In one overheard chat he tells her he is writing her a song that started out bloody and turned into a ballad – she teases him mercilessly.
He sees himself as a warrior poet in the Nord tradition, which is why he despises the bard Mikael, who he says sings only for gold and women. He also regrets that the war has split the Battle-Borns and Gray-Manes, once close as kin.
To newcomers he is helpful: he points the ambitious towards Dragonsreach, fighters towards The Companions, and the thirsty towards Hulda.
Good to know
His attempt to charm Saadia and Ysolda at the inn backfires, leaving the women laughing as he stalks off.
