Aela the Huntress is a Nord huntress, archer and member of The Circle, the inner core of the Companions in Whiterun. She is also a werewolf – and she is the one who offers you the “gift” of lycanthropy deep into the Companions’ questline.
How to recruit Aela
Aela becomes a follower after you complete “Glory of the Dead”, the final quest of the main Companions questline. Until then she is essential and busy with guild business at Jorrvaskr.
As a follower
Aela is one of the best archers you can bring along, with strong Archery, Light Armor, Sneak and One-Handed skills. She levels with you up to level 50 and is a great choice for stealthy hunters and archers – just do not expect her to help with crimes. She tops our list of the best archer followers.

Background
Aela comes from a long line of Companions – her mother, her mother’s mother and all the women of her family back to Hrotti Blackblade. She grew up hunting in the woods with her father before taking her Trial.
