Captain Aldis is a Nord officer of the Imperial Legion and captain of the guard in Solitude. When you first arrive in the city, he is the one presiding over the execution of Roggvir, who opened the gate for Ulfric. Ordering the headsman Ahtar to begin is just one of his duties.
Where to find them
In the courtyard outside Castle Dour, where he shouts at recruits practising their archery. After a Stormcloak victory in the civil war he is gone from the game, presumably killed in the Battle for Solitude, so finish his business first if you are fighting for Ulfric.
Quests
- No News is Good News – Angeline Morrard wants news of her daughter Fura. Aldis calls it need-to-know, so you’ll have to persuade or intimidate him, or simply give him an order if you are a Legion legate. The answer: Fura’s scouting party out of Whiterun ran into a large Stormcloak force and none of them came back.
- Rare Gifts – he wants something for the soldiers to read when they aren’t drinking and asks you to find a copy of The Mirror, an old book on basic shield work. Bring it back for a reward.
- For the Good of Morthal – Gorm in Morthal sends you with a letter for Aldis about Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone. Aldis had hoped Gorm had dropped his scheme and finds it impossible in wartime, but he promises to consider it.
- Hired Muscle – if you are with the Companions, he may come up as a target for a brawl.
Personality & relationships
Aldis is an unsentimental career soldier. He calls Roggvir a fine and honorable man, yet thinks he was completely wrong and the execution was necessary. Being honorable doesn’t make you right, he says, though the world would be better if it did. Asked whether his men could face a dragon, he answers that he can sharpen their skills and harden their hearts, and the gods will have to do the rest.
Good to know
He is voiced by Paul Ganus, who also voices many other characters in the game.
