The Skyforge Steel Battleaxe looks just like an ordinary Steel Battleaxe, but the Skyforge’s master smith has clearly put in extra care. It deals 21 base damage instead of 18, which puts it level with the Elven Battleaxe, while keeping the steel version’s 21 weight.
It is the axe of choice for Companions who want to look the part early on. Ask Eorlund for one and he will tell you it suits you the way it suited Ysgramor. With Steel Armor you have the full Jorrvaskr look.

Where to find
- Sold by Eorlund Gray-Mane at the Skyforge in Whiterun, the only merchant who stocks it.
- Free reward for finishing the Companions quest Proving Honor: pick the battleaxe from Eorlund’s list of Skyforge weapons.

This weapon cannot be crafted at a forge – you have to find, loot or buy it.

Tips and notes
- It cannot be forged, even at the Skyforge itself.
- Temper it with a Steel Ingot; Steel Smithing doubles the improvement, so it is cheap to keep sharp.
- If you are torn between reward weapons in Proving Honor, the battleaxe gives you an elven-grade two-hander at a point in the game when that is a real upgrade.
