Not every hero’s errand involves dragons. In Bullying Braith, young Lars Battle-Born of Whiterun is tired of being pushed around by Braith, the toughest kid in town, and asks the Dragonborn to sort it out. It is a short miscellaneous task in Whiterun Hold, and the pay is exactly as impressive as you would expect from a child’s piggy bank.
How to start
- Find Lars Battle-Born in Whiterun. He usually runs around the city streets with the other children.
- Ask him about the bullying he complains about. He explains that Braith picks on him and that the grown-ups think he is weak because he cannot fight.
- Offer to help and the quest is added to your journal.
The offer seems to depend on your character’s level. If Lars only repeats his usual grumbling about Braith and the conversation goes no further, the quest is not yet available to you – come back later.
Walkthrough
Find Braith
Braith tends to play around the market square and in the area behind Breezehome and Arcadia’s Cauldron. Follow the quest marker if she has wandered off. Occasionally she gets stuck inside a random house in Whiterun (for example Carlotta Valentia‘s home); opening or picking the door usually lets her appear outside again.
Convince her to stop
Talk to Braith and bring up Lars. She has a few dialogue options, and any of them that successfully convinces her to back off will do the trick – you do not need to raise a hand against a child, and attacking one in Whiterun is not something the guards will appreciate anyway.
Report to Lars
Go back to Lars and tell him Braith will not be bothering him any more. He hands over his promised reward and the quest completes.
Rewards
- 2 gold – Lars’s entire life savings.
- The satisfaction of having ended the reign of terror in Whiterun’s market.
Tips and notes
- The quest has a failure state. If Braith’s parents die and she is sent to the orphanage in Riften, the option to tell her to stop bullying Lars no longer appears, so do this early if you care about it.
- Lars’s own lines make it clear he is mostly worried about being seen as a “milk drinker” by the adults, which makes the Dragonborn’s intervention a small kindness rather than a fight.
- It pairs well with other quick Whiterun errands, such as tasks for the Companions or chores for local merchants, if you are already in town.
