Aval Atheron is a Dark Elf merchant in Windhelm. Officially he is a pawnbroker with a meat stall in the marketplace; unofficially, he hints that you would rather not ask where some of his stock came from. His brother is Faryl Atheron and his sister is Suvaris Atheron.
Where to find them
During the day he works his stall in the Windhelm marketplace, next to Hillevi Cruel-Sea. He lives in the Atheron Residence in the Gray Quarter. When work ends around 7 PM he heads to the New Gnisis Cornerclub and drinks out front.
Quests
Rescue Mission – A Companions radiant quest may report that Aval has been kidnapped and taken to Bannermist Tower. The Companions send you to free him and see him safely back to Windhelm.
Services
Aval is a merchant: he buys and sells goods from his stall. He describes himself as both resourceful and discreet, and suggests that anyone fussy about where things came from should shop elsewhere. He also recommends Sadri’s Used Wares, run by Revyn Sadri.
Personality & relationships
According to his brother, Aval is ashamed that his siblings work for Nords. He respects Ambarys Rendar but finds his views a bit extreme. He clearly likes Brunwulf Free-Winter: after hearing from Malthyr that Brunwulf has been speaking up to Ulfric for the Dunmer, he tries to give him a discount, which Brunwulf politely turns down. If Brunwulf becomes Jarl, Aval says he finally believes better days are coming.
Locals do business with him too. Torsten Cruel-Sea may approach him about new farm equipment, and Tova Shatter-Shield arranges for him to take her late daughter Friga’s belongings.
Good to know
- He shouts about fresh fruits and vegetables, but his stall only shows meat. The produce is actually at Hillevi’s stand next door.
- Killing him may lead his brother to send hired thugs after you.
