River Betty looks like any other small fish, but it has one of the strongest Damage Health effects of any ingredient – only Crimson Nirnroot and the one-off Jarrin Root beat it. Since you can catch River Betties in large numbers, they’re a practical choice for strong poisons. Fortify Alteration and Fortify Carry Weight are nice extras.
Alchemy effects
The effects are listed in the order you discover them by eating the ingredient or using it in a potion. Two ingredients make a potion when they share at least one effect.
- Damage Health – a poison effect that deals instant damage to the target’s Health. Also on: Crimson Nirnroot, Deathbell, Ectoplasm, Falmer Ear, Human Flesh, Human Heart, Imp Stool, Jarrin Root, Nightshade, Nirnroot, Red Mountain Flower, Skeever Tail, Small Antlers, Troll Fat, Void Salts.
- Fortify Alteration – makes your Alteration spells last longer for a while. Also on: Grass Pod, Spriggan Sap.
- Slow – a poison effect that makes the target move at reduced speed for a few seconds. Also on: Deathbell, Large Antlers, Salt Pile.
- Fortify Carry Weight – raises how much you can carry for a while – handy when you are over-encumbered. Also on: Creep Cluster, Giant’s Toe, Hawk Beak, Scaly Pholiota, Wisp Wrappings.
Tips and trivia
River Betty is worth more than Crimson Nirnroot, so its poisons are more expensive – which can make reverse-pickpocketing them harder.
