Butterfly Wing

Wings from monarch butterflies – one of the most common Restore Health ingredients.

Butterfly Wing comes from Skyrim’s orange monarch butterflies – each catch gives you two wings. Along with Blue Mountain Flower it’s one of the most common Restore Health ingredients, and Fortify Barter makes it handy for anyone who likes squeezing merchants.

Alchemy effects

The effects are listed in the order you discover them by eating the ingredient or using it in a potion. Two ingredients make a potion when they share at least one effect.

  1. Restore Health – instantly restores lost Health. Also on: Blisterwort, Blue Dartwing, Blue Mountain Flower, Charred Skeever Hide, Daedra Heart, Eye of Sabre Cat, Imp Stool, Rock Warbler Egg, Swamp Fungal Pod, Wheat.
  2. Fortify Barter – gets you better prices from merchants for a short time. Also on: Dragon’s Tongue, Hagraven Claw, Tundra Cotton.
  3. Lingering Damage Stamina – a poison effect that drains the target’s Stamina over time. Also on: Chicken’s Egg, Nightshade, Small Antlers.
  4. Damage Magicka – a poison effect that drains the target’s Magicka on the spot. Also on: Chaurus Eggs, Daedra Heart, Eye of Sabre Cat, Glow Dust, Hagraven Feathers, Hanging Moss, Human Heart, Jarrin Root, Luna Moth Wing, Namira’s Rot, Nordic Barnacle.

Tips and trivia

The game’s monarchs have swallowtails, which real monarch butterflies don’t. Tamriel has its own rules.

Where to find it

  • Wherever flowers grow – lavender, tundra cotton and mountain flowers attract them.
  • A small camp among standing stones on the far western tip of the island under the Blue Palace in Solitude spawns lots of monarch and blue butterflies.
  • Autumnshade Clearing in the Rift is full of them.
  • Sold by alchemists and found in apothecary's satchels; Falmer now and then carry some.
