Wind Stone

All-Maker Stone north-west of Skaal Village where enthralled Skaal labour for Miraak until Bend Will frees them and unlocks the North Wind frost power.

The Wind Stone is one of the All-Maker Stones of Solstheim, added with the Dragonborn expansion. It stands north-west of Skaal Village in the snowy north, and its eerie green glow is a warning sign: according to Frea, that light means Skaal villagers are working on the stone against their will, building for Miraak while their neighbours hold a protective barrier back home.

What you’ll find

  • The stone under Miraak’s influence, with enthralled Skaal labouring around it. Speak to them and you’ll only get Miraak’s mantra in return.
  • A rather risky interaction: activate the stone before it’s cleansed and you join the workers in their trance, toiling away while Miraak recites his mantra in your head. It’s harmless and you can snap out of it at any time.
  • Order a follower to activate it and they’ll worship the stone for 10 seconds before returning – try chatting during that time for a dose of mantra.
  • After cleansing, the stone grants North Wind once per day: an area-of-effect power dealing 20 frost damage per second for 10 seconds, much like the Blizzard spell. Activate the stone again to recharge it.

Quests

  • The Fate of the Skaal – find a way to free the hypnotised villagers. The Skaal point you towards the stone’s green light.
  • Cleansing the Stones – use the Bend Will Shout to purge Miraak’s influence from this and the other All-Maker Stones, such as the Beast Stone.

Tips

Once you’ve got Bend Will, a single Shout does the heavy lifting here – no need to fight the poor Skaal, who are victims rather than enemies. Resist the temptation to touch the stone before it’s cleansed unless you fancy a short shift as one of Miraak’s labourers. North Wind is a once-a-day power, so save it for a crowd rather than a lone wolf; a ten-second frost storm is wasted on one skeever.

Good to know

Freeing the stone has a happy ending: the enthralled villagers walk home to Skaal Village, and Storn Crag-Strider and the other unaffected Skaal can finally stop maintaining their barrier and return to normal life.
