Miraak calls himself the First Dragonborn, and the people of Solstheim – along with the Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora – agree. His name means roughly “Allegiance–Guide” in the dragon tongue. Long ago he was a dragon priest who served the dragons, then turned his Voice against them. Ever since, he’s been stuck in Hermaeus Mora’s realm of Apocrypha, waiting for his chance to return.
Role in Dragonborn
When you arrive on Solstheim, people are sleepwalking to the All-Maker Stones and building a temple to Miraak without knowing why. You first meet him in person at the end of “The Temple of Miraak”, when you read a Black Book and find yourself face to face with a masked figure who very much wants to be the only Dragonborn around. The questline ends in Apocrypha in “At the Summit of Apocrypha”.
Combat
Miraak is a serious fight: he uses Shouts, Daedric tentacles, magic and – most annoyingly – he can steal the souls of dragons you’ve weakened to heal himself. Kill the dragons he summons quickly or keep the pressure on him.
