Cold Rock Pass is an icy cave that tunnels right through Eldersblood Peak. One end sits south of Morthal and the other northeast of Rorikstead. It’s a shortcut between Hjaalmarch and Whiterun Hold with a bonus troll and some ore for your trouble.
What you’ll find
- North Cold Rock Pass: south of Morthal, off the trail climbing to Eldersblood Peak.
- South Cold Rock Pass: northeast of Rorikstead, above Rannveig’s Fast.
- A frost troll roaming the highest part of the pass.
- One quicksilver ore vein up high on the south-southwest wall, right of the waterfall.
- Two corundum ore veins: one under a rock column by the frozen pond, one beside the ramp into the main room (coming from the north).
- Two chests against the east wall. One is already open, the other is closed but unlocked.
Quests
It’s a possible target for the radiant quest “Animal Extermination”.
Tips
Frost trolls hit hard and heal fast, so bring fire and keep swinging. The quicksilver vein sits right in the troll’s patrol area, so mine it after the troll is dead. The pass crosses a hold border, which makes it one of the few caves in Skyrim with an entrance in two holds.
