Snowclad Ruins

Small dilapidated ruin near the Temple of Miraak on Solstheim, guarded by three werebears, with a chest under a waterfall and another on the roof.

Snowclad Ruins are a small, slightly crumbling ruin on Solstheim, added with the Dragonborn expansion. They lie near the Temple of Miraak, beside a pool of water that spills over into a waterfall. There is not much here in the way of architecture, but the place is guarded by three werebears, which is more than enough excitement for one stop on the way to somewhere else.

What you’ll find

  • Three werebears – the main event and the main threat.
  • A modest, worn-down stone structure with very little inside.
  • A pool beside the ruin that drains into a waterfall.
  • A chest in the pool, just left of the steps leading into the water, directly under the waterfall.
  • A second chest on the roof of the ruin.
  • Some small pickings: a skull, a deer hide and a rabbit to harvest.

Tips

Three werebears hit hard and fast, so do not wander in at low health. Fighting from range before they close in, or luring them one at a time, makes life much easier; a follower to soak some of the damage never hurts. For the roof chest, look to the right side of the structure and jump up the angled rocks – it takes a couple of tries if your platforming skills are as rusty as an old iron sword. The underwater chest is easy to miss: wade down the stairs into the pool and look left, right under the falling water. Since you will probably pass by here on the way to the temple, it is worth a short detour once you can handle the bears.

Good to know

The ruins themselves offer very little treasure apart from the two chests, so the real value is the pair of hidden containers and the bragging rights for surviving three werebears at once. The waterfall makes a nice backdrop for screenshots, if you can enjoy it while being chased by angry fur.
