Skaal Village is a small Nordic settlement in the icy tundra of northern Solstheim, added with the Dragonborn expansion. It is one of the island’s three settlements and sits a short walk north of Thirsk Mead Hall. The Skaal keep to themselves, but anyone interested in stalhrim, the All-Maker or a good follower will want to visit.
What you’ll find
- The glowing column – in the middle of the village, three Skaal concentrate on sustaining a glowing, pillar-like apparition and won’t chat while doing it.
- An empty village (at first) – until The Fate of the Skaal is done, only those three and the child Aeta are around.
- The Greathall – home of chief Fanari Strong-Voice.
- Shaman’s Hut – where the elderly shaman Storn Crag-Strider lives with Frea, a shaman and potential follower.
- Baldor Iron-Shaper’s House – home of the village blacksmith and stalhrim craftsman.
- Other homes – Deor Woodcutter and Yrsa, Edla and her son Nikulas, Morwen, Oslaf and Finna with their daughter Aeta, and the hunter Wulf Wild-Blood. The Nord scholar Tharstan studies the Skaal here too.
Quests
- A New Source of Stalhrim – find the kidnapped Skaal blacksmith.
- Filial Bond – help Wulf Wild-Blood look for a brother he fears has become a werebear.
- Lost Legacy – join Tharstan exploring Vahlok’s Tomb.
- Morwen’s Request – bring Bera’s necklace to Runil in Falkreath.
- Nikulas’ Future – convince Nikulas to stay.
- Animal Extermination – deal with a leveled animal in Deor Woodcutter’s house.
Tips
Finish The Fate of the Skaal first if you want the village to feel alive – before that it’s mostly a ghost town with a light show. Once things are back to normal, recover Baldor via A New Source of Stalhrim; he is the man you want for stalhrim gear. Frea makes a strong companion, and Morwen is a marriage option if you fancy a frosty home life.
Good to know
Unlike most of Solstheim, the village often plays regular Skyrim music instead of the island’s own tracks – a little musical reminder that the Skaal are Nords at heart.
