Beast Stone

All-Maker Stone south of the Temple of Miraak where enthralled rieklings toil on a shrine until Bend Will frees them and unlocks a werebear summon.

The Beast Stone is one of the All-Maker Stones of Solstheim, added with the Dragonborn expansion. It stands south of the Temple of Miraak and just west of Thirsk Mead Hall, and on your first visit it is anything but a quiet monument: a crew of hypnotised workers is busy raising a shrine around it in the name of Miraak. You come here to break that spell, and you leave with a rather furry blessing.

What you’ll find

  • The stone itself, wrapped in the half-finished structure Miraak’s thralls are building while it remains under his influence.
  • Enthralled rieklings hauling and hammering away. Try talking to them and they’ll recite Miraak’s mantra – in their own language, naturally.
  • Possibly some unexpected co-workers: if you found Bujold’s Retreat before this stone, Bujold the Unworthy and a few of her Nords may be standing here in the same trance as the rieklings.
  • A lurker that appears once you use the Shout on the stone, so the job isn’t over when the shrine comes down.
  • Once cleansed, the stone grants Conjure Werebear: a werebear appears wherever you aim the effect and fights at your side for 60 seconds.

Quests

The Beast Stone is one stop in Cleansing the Stones. After you learn the Bend Will Shout at Saering’s Watch, Storn Crag-Strider in Skaal Village asks you to strip Miraak’s influence from each All-Maker Stone by shouting the enthralled builders’ handiwork to pieces.

Tips

Arrive with full health and a weapon ready – the lurker is the real boss of this visit, and it doesn’t care that you just did everyone a favour. The freed rieklings wander back to Thirsk Mead Hall afterwards, which is worth keeping in mind if you’re juggling the Thirsk storylines. Speaking of which: if you help the Nords with Retaking Thirsk before cleansing this stone, they head straight here once that quest is done. The werebear summon is a superb distraction for anything big and angry; 60 seconds of claws and roaring buys a lot of breathing room on an island full of things that want to eat you.
