Bujold the Unworthy is a Nord warrior and the chieftain of Thirsk Mead Hall on Solstheim (Dragonborn). Like the Thirsk leaders before her, she earned the title by slaying a great beast – in her case the beast of Ilfark, whose stomach she brought home as a trophy. Lovely. When you meet her, though, things have gone badly: a band of Rieklings has kicked her and her warriors out of their own mead hall, and the “Unworthy” nickname is clearly eating at her.
Where to find them
At first she camps with her exiled Nords at Bujold’s Retreat on the eastern shore of the island, a short way south of Skaal Village. The hall itself sits up on the hill near the Beast Stone. Once Thirsk is retaken (and if she survives what follows), she moves back into the hall.
Quests
In Retaking Thirsk she admits the hall was lost to tenacity, numbers and a little too much mead. Offer your sword and she gives her lazy crew a rousing speech about being out-spirited by a wandering stranger, then leads the charge up the hill. With the Rieklings and their chief dead, she asks you to be her “second” and witness her renewed blessing at Hrothmund’s Barrow. The ghost of Thirsk’s founder is not impressed: he blames her softness for the exile and refuses her the leadership. Bujold decides to lead anyway and start a new tradition. You can keep quiet and let her rule, or refuse – in which case she fights you to keep the secret and dies.
If you side with the Riekling chief in The Chief of Thirsk Hall instead, he sends you and his Rieklings down to her camp to kill Bujold and her Nords.
Personality & relationships
Bujold is proud, impatient and harder on herself than anyone. She is married to Kuvar, who nags her to either train the warriors or settle down by the water – she wants neither comfort nor his advice. She tells Hilund that worrying helps nobody, yet later warns Kuvar to stop pressuring her. Elmus keeps her updated on the state of the mead, which matters a great deal in Thirsk. After the barrow she shrugs off Hrothmund as a great man but no god, insisting the living should find their own strength.
Good to know
If you later tell Kuvar what really happened at the barrow, the couple argue and he exiles her into the wilds. When met at the end of The Chief of Thirsk Hall she goes by “Bujold the Intrepid” – the name she clearly prefers. Her name is said with a soft French-style “j”, unusual for a Nord.
