Tel Mithryn

Neloth’s living mushroom tower at the southeast end of Solstheim – a Telvanni home and laboratory with a Staff Enchanter, a Black Book and many side quests.

Tel Mithryn is a small Telvanni tower at the southeast end of Solstheim, east of Fort Frostmoth, added with the Dragonborn expansion. It is the home and laboratory of Master Neloth, a wizard of House Telvanni. If you like magic and odd jobs, you’ll be spending a lot of time here.

What you’ll find

  • A grown tower – Neloth grew the tower and its outbuildings from huge mushroom cuttings he brought from Morrowind before Red Mountain erupted. His mycologist, Elynea Mothren, keeps it healthy.
  • The rune elevator – levitation was outlawed by the Levitation Act of 3E 421, so Neloth installed a glowing runed pad at the base of the stem that whisks you up and down in seconds.
  • The main floor – crammed with magical artifacts, potions, ingredients, spell tomes, Dwemer artifacts and books. All of it is Neloth’s, so taking anything is stealing.
  • Side rooms – a bedroom, a creature lab with two caged spriggans (one regular, one burnt) that appears after Healing a House, and a locked enchanting room with a Staff Enchanter that opens after Reluctant Steward.
  • Residents – Neloth, Elynea and Talvas Fathryon.

Quests

The main quest leads here in The Path of Knowledge. Side quests include Azra’s Staffs, Briarheart Necropsy, Experimental Subject, From the Ashes (an Ash Guardian summoned by Talvas), Healing a House, Heart Stones, Lost Knowledge, Old Friends (who is sending ash spawn after the tower?), Reluctant Steward, Telvanni Research and Wind and Sand. Smaller tasks include a second Experimental Subject (Silence) and Elynea’s Ingredients.

Notable items

  • Black Book: The Hidden Twilight – on the enchanting table in the Staff Enchanter room
  • Books such as Ahzidal’s Descent, Deathbrand, Nerevar at Red Mountain, The Doors of the Spirit and Words of the Wind
  • Staff Enchanter and arcane enchanter

Tips

Never just jump off the top floor to get down – the drop can kill you outright. Use the “Float down” prompt instead. Keep sticky fingers in your pockets, since everything belongs to Neloth, and the tower is his home, not a shop.

Good to know

The Redoran Guards in Raven Rock are no fans of the place and will advise anyone heading east to give it a wide berth. Considering the caged spriggans, they may have a point.
