Graywinter Watch is a small cave east of Whiterun, a little southeast of Battle-Born Farm. Some bandits once set up camp here. Then two trolls moved in, and judging by the state of the place, the bandits did not win the negotiations. It is only a single room, but it packs more worthwhile loot than its size suggests.
What you’ll find
- Two trolls – the current, very territorial tenants.
- The leftovers of the bandit camp: a tent pitched beneath a hole in the ceiling, with bedrolls tucked side by side out of the draught and oddly far from the fire.
- A ledge with a row of skulls lined up with unsettling neatness.
- Thirteen clusters of fungi growing around the cave, handy for alchemists.
Quests
- Kyne’s Sacred Trials – Froki’s Bow, the item Froki Whetted-Blade wants back, is found in this cave.
- Animal Extermination – the cave can be picked as the target for this job.
Notable items
- Froki’s Bow – an enchanted bow that damages stamina.
- Archery skill book Vernaccus and Bourlor, resting on top of a barrel at the back of the cave.
Tips
Two trolls in a tight room is a lot of claws per square metre. Opening with arrows from the entrance lets you soften one up before both close the distance. If things go badly, back out the way you came – the cave is small enough that there is nowhere clever to hide.
Timing matters for Froki’s quest. If you clear the cave before starting Kyne’s Sacred Trials, the whole area may respawn once the quest becomes active, and you can end up with a second copy of the bow. Froki also will not acknowledge that you found his bow until the quest is active and the Guardian Troll Spirit has been dealt with, so don’t panic if he seems unimpressed at first.
Good to know
Very rarely a player or one of the trolls can slip through the floor near the barrels. Leaving and re-entering, or reloading, sorts it out.
