Jarrin Root is the most lethal ingredient in Skyrim. Astrid hands it to you during To Kill an Empire to poison the Emperor’s meal, and its Damage Health is a hundred times stronger than on ordinary poison ingredients. Taste it raw and it deals 200 damage – enough to kill a weaker character outright.
Alchemy effects
The effects are listed in the order you discover them by eating the ingredient or using it in a potion. Two ingredients make a potion when they share at least one effect.
- Damage Health – a poison effect that deals instant damage to the target’s Health. Also on: Crimson Nirnroot, Deathbell, Ectoplasm, Falmer Ear, Human Flesh, Human Heart, Imp Stool, Nightshade, Nirnroot, Red Mountain Flower, River Betty, Skeever Tail, Small Antlers, Troll Fat, Void Salts.
- Damage Magicka – a poison effect that drains the target’s Magicka on the spot. Also on: Butterfly Wing, Chaurus Eggs, Daedra Heart, Eye of Sabre Cat, Glow Dust, Hagraven Feathers, Hanging Moss, Human Heart, Luna Moth Wing, Namira’s Rot, Nordic Barnacle.
- Damage Stamina – a poison effect that drains the target’s Stamina on the spot. Also on: Berit’s Ashes, Blisterwort, Blue Butterfly Wing, Bone Meal, Canis Root, Crimson Nirnroot, Cyrodilic Spadetail, Giant’s Toe, Nirnroot, Rock Warbler Egg, Spider Egg.
- Damage Magicka Regen – a poison effect that slows the target’s Magicka regeneration for a short time. Also on: Bear Claws, Blue Butterfly Wing, Blue Mountain Flower, Chicken’s Egg, Glow Dust, Hanging Moss, Human Heart, Nightshade, Spider Egg, Spriggan Sap.
All four effects are harmful, which makes Jarrin Root a pure poison ingredient.
Tips and trivia
Because there’s only one, players often save it for one extremely strong poison, for example mixed with Crimson Nirnroot and Glow Dust. Finishing A Return To Your Roots first gives you Sinderion’s Serendipity, a chance to brew two potions at once. If you’re a College member and die from eating it, the quest “Rejoining the College” starts.
