Xbox CEO Has Played The Elder Scrolls VI: “The Scale and Grandeur Are Incredible”

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma saw a live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI in August 2026. Here's what she said – and everything else we actually know about TES VI so far.

Eight years after that famous 2018 teaser, The Elder Scrolls VI is finally being played – at least behind closed doors. In August 2026, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma shared that she had watched a live playthrough of the game at Bethesda.

What she said

Her post described a “live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI” – with the game’s subtitle censored – and summed it up like this: “The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater.” Bethesda replied with thanks, also keeping the subtitle hidden.

There was no public footage, no trailer and no release date. But it’s the clearest sign yet that the game is in a playable state.

What we know about The Elder Scrolls VI

  • Announced: June 10, 2018, with a short cinematic teaser at E3.
  • Engine: Todd Howard has said the game is being built on Creation Engine 3.
  • Style: Howard has talked about a return to “classic style” open-world exploration in the vein of Oblivion and Fallout 3.
  • Studio focus: according to Howard, most of Bethesda Game Studios is now working on it.
  • Release date: not announced.
  • Platforms: not officially confirmed. Documents from the 2023 FTC case pointed to Xbox and PC.
  • Setting: not officially confirmed. Hammerfell and High Rock are the most common fan guesses, based on the teaser – but they remain guesses.

Our take

A censored subtitle and a two-sentence review isn’t much – but after this many years of silence, we’ll take it. We’ll keep our Elder Scrolls VI hub updated as soon as Bethesda shares anything official. Until then, there’s always another trip to Skyrim.
