Luminous cave fungus – Fortify Smithing, Fortify Destruction, Fortify Health and Resist Shock.

Glowing Mushrooms light up Skyrim’s caves and Dwemer ruins with their soft blue-green glow. They’re easy to find in big numbers, and every effect is beneficial: Fortify Smithing, Fortify Destruction, Fortify Health and Resist Shock. That makes them a great all-round ingredient.

Alchemy effects

The effects are listed in the order you discover them by eating the ingredient or using it in a potion. Two ingredients make a potion when they share at least one effect.

  1. Resist Shock – reduces the shock damage you take for a while. Also on: Blue Dartwing, Glow Dust, Hawk Beak, Pearl, Pine Thrush Egg, Snowberries, Swamp Fungal Pod.
  2. Fortify Destruction – makes your Destruction spells stronger for a while. Also on: Beehive Husk, Ectoplasm, Glow Dust, Nightshade, Wisp Wrappings.
  3. Fortify Smithing – makes weapon and armor improvements better – drink it before using a grindstone or workbench. Also on: Blisterwort, Sabre Cat Tooth, Spriggan Sap.
  4. Fortify Health – raises your maximum Health for a while. Also on: Bear Claws, Blue Mountain Flower, Giant’s Toe, Hanging Moss, Wheat.

Tips and trivia

Single mushrooms often hang hidden among larger clusters, so look twice when you pick.

Where to find it

  • Tolvald's Cave holds hundreds – a full clear yields 200 or more.
  • Lost Echo Cave (57 clusters and ten singles, many in a safe outer chamber), Honningbrew Meadery's basement (around 50), Shimmermist Cave and Frostflow Abyss (40 each).
  • At least 15 near the exit of Bleak Falls Barrow – an early, easy batch.
  • Chillwind Depths, Greenwall Cave, the Mzulft Boilery, Forelhost's crypt and many deep Dwemer ruins.
  • Four in the Arch-Mage's Quarters at the College of Winterhold.
