Bothela

Bothela is the elderly Reachwoman alchemist who runs The Hag's Cure in Markarth, selling potions and ingredients and mourning kin lost to the Forsworn.

Bothela is an old Breton Reachwoman who owns The Hag’s Cure, the alchemy shop in Markarth. She sells potions and ingredients with her apprentice Muiri and leans happily into her witchy reputation – as she puts it, live long enough and people start assuming you’re magic.

Where to find them

Inside The Hag’s Cure. She never sleeps, which makes her shop tricky to rob.

Quests

The Steward’s Potion – ask about the shop’s name and she’ll mention a special brew she made for the Jarl’s steward, Raerek. Deliver it and Raerek rewards you.

Services

Bothela is an alchemy merchant selling potions and alchemical ingredients.

Personality & relationships

She has little love for the Silver-Bloods, who send their thug Yngvar to squeeze coins out of her every few days, and she gossips that Betrid keeps buying potions for Thonar. The Forsworn are a sore spot: many of her friends and relatives joined them and were lost, and she tells Muiri she has a nephew locked up for being one of them. With Muiri she’s equal parts strict teacher and tough-love aunt, warning her to taste every potion she gets wrong and offering blunt advice about untrustworthy men.

Good to know

  • Odvan, a prisoner in Cidhna Mine, is her grandson – though some dialogue suggests nephew instead.
  • If you kill Odvan, she sends hired thugs after you.
  • She attends Muiri’s wedding if you marry Muiri.
