Eola

Eola is a Breton priestess of Namira who leads a cannibal coven from Reachcliff Cave, starts The Taste of Death and can later become your follower.
“The dead exist to feed the living.”

Eola is a Breton mage with a very particular diet. She is the high priestess of a coven of cannibals who worship the Daedric Prince Namira, and she is one of the more unsettling people you can bump into in Markarth. She greets you as if she already knows your darkest secret, then invites you to dinner. You probably shouldn’t ask what’s on the menu.

Where to find them

Eola doesn’t exist in the world until you talk to Brother Verulus about the trouble in Markarth’s Hall of the Dead. Look into it and you find her lurking among the tombs. After that, her home base is Reachcliff Cave, where she sits at the head of the coven’s dining table once the shrine is back in their hands.

Quests

Eola is the face of the Daedric quest The Taste of Death. When she catches you in the Hall of the Dead, she tries to convince you that you are a cannibal who has simply forgotten your first meal. Play along and she asks you to meet her at Reachcliff Cave, where the two of you clear out the draugr that have taken over Namira’s shrine. Her next request is darker: lure Verulus to the cave with a story about treasure, so the coven can serve him as the main course. You can also refuse her outright, or attack her on the spot.

Back at the cave, she uses magic to make the dazed priest wander to his own demise, and you are expected to take the first bite. Finish the feast and you become Namira’s champion and keeper of her ring.

Follower & marriage

Once you have cleared Reachcliff Cave and agreed to join her coven, Eola can be recruited as a follower. She fights as a Nightblade: sneaky, comfortable with a one-handed blade (sometimes one in each hand), and very fond of Destruction and Alteration magic. In a typical fight she opens by summoning a flame atronach, follows up with Fireball or lightning, and then raises fallen enemies to fight for her. When her magicka runs dry she switches to weapons, staves or even a bow.

She never heals herself, though, so bring Healing Hands or a healing staff if you want to keep her upright. She can be made a steward of one of your homes (Hearthfire) and can be recruited into the Blades.

Personality & relationships

Eola is calm, warm and utterly unbothered by what she does. She insists the coven is ancient and that she is merely leading its newest generation. Her fellow diners include the meat seller Hogni Red-Arm, the shopkeeper Lisbet and Banning. She also clearly knows a bit of Illusion: she slips out of Markarth by turning invisible.

Good to know

If you dismiss her, do it inside Reachcliff Cave. Send her home from outside the secret entrance and she takes the long walk around to the main door, which gives bears and dragons plenty of time to ruin your plans. She also finds draugr foul-tasting, which is somehow reassuring.
