Cosnach

Cosnach is a bored, hard-drinking Breton porter in Markarth who brawls you for 100 gold and then becomes a sturdy follower, Blades recruit and spouse.

Cosnach is a Breton porter in Markarth, employed by the Arnleif and Sons Trading Company. The problem is that Forsworn raid almost every caravan, so there’s nothing to carry – and Cosnach has made peace with that by drinking from morning till night. His cousin Imedhnain works at the same company and got him the job.

Where to find them

Most of the day he’s drinking at the Silver-Blood Inn. At night he goes back to his bed in The Warrens, then wakes up and heads straight back to the inn.

Quests

  • Fight! Fight! – talk to him and he’ll bet you 100 gold he can beat you bare-handed. Win, collect your money, and he’s willing to join you for free.
  • Drinks – like other drunks, he’ll happily take an alcoholic drink off you.
  • Rebuilding the Blades – bring him along when you talk to Delphine and he can be recruited into the Blades.

Follower & marriage

Once you’ve beaten him in a brawl (or given him a drink), Cosnach can follow you at no cost. He levels with you up to 30 and is best with Heavy Armor, One-Handed, Archery and Block, which makes him a solid sword-and-board tank who can also pick off enemies with a bow. Funnily enough he walks around in light armor by default, so swap him into something heavier to get the most from him.

He’s also a marriage candidate: wear an Amulet of Mara after you’ve won his respect and you can propose.

Personality & relationships

Cosnach is grumpy and sarcastic, and tired of being pushed around. His boss Lisbet calls him a lazy oaf for standing around; he points out, repeatedly, that there’s nothing to bring to the store. He accuses innkeeper Kleppr of watering down the drinks, refuses to give Degaine a coin, and doesn’t believe any of Degaine’s tales about how he got crippled. If you refuse his brawl, he’ll call you a milk drinker. When the fight starts he shouts that he’s done being pushed around, and when he loses he insists he can keep going for about one second before admitting he can’t. A female Dragonborn gets asked whether she’s a “fighting girl” before the challenge.

Good to know

  • You can keep giving him drinks forever, even as a follower or spouse. He doesn’t actually drink them, so you can take the bottles back from his inventory.
  • He shares his drunk voice type with only one other follower, Torvar.
