Eltrys is a Breton living in Markarth who has spent his whole life chasing one question. When he was a boy, his father – one of the rare non-Nords to own a mine – was murdered. The guards called it the work of a madman; everybody knew it was the Forsworn. Eltrys has been trying to find out why ever since.
Where to find them
Right after Weylin attacks Margret in the market, Eltrys walks up and hands you a note you “dropped”. It sends you to the Shrine of Talos underneath the Temple of Dibella, where he waits for you. If you leave the market without talking to him, he follows a routine instead: from 7am to 7pm he works at the smelter, and the rest of the time he’s in The Warrens.
Quests
The Forsworn Conspiracy – in the shrine, Eltrys explains that a man went mad in the market, everyone knows he was Forsworn, and the guards do nothing but mop up. He asks you to find out why Margret was attacked and who is behind Weylin, and promises to pay for anything you uncover. The trail leads through The Warrens, the Silver-Blood Inn and Nepos the Nose. Report your findings to him along the way and he hands over gold each time.
Once you’ve gathered enough evidence, you return to find Eltrys dead, killed by guards working for the Silver-Blood family – who then try to pin all the murders on you. That sets up “No One Escapes Cidhna Mine”.
Personality & relationships
Eltrys is earnest and scared. He used to cast silver ingots in the smelter, knew Weylin only as a fellow worker, and describes the Forsworn as remnants of the old rulers whom Ulfric’s men drove out about twenty years ago. He tells you he is married with a child on the way and had sworn to give up the hunt – but he feels his father’s ghost won’t let him. He also seems to be close to Rhiada, who carries the key to his room, and Thonar Silver-Blood hints at the connection too.
Good to know
- If you don’t speak to him before his murder, you miss the gold he pays for new information.
- The Companions can send you to rescue him in a radiant quest; if the Forsworn Conspiracy is already done, that quest is broken because he’s dead.
