Earth Stone

All-Maker Stone west of Raven Rock where Miraak’s spell forces townsfolk to build day and night – a key stop in the Dragonborn main quest and Cleansing the Stones.

The Earth Stone is one of the All-Maker Stones of Solstheim, sacred to the Skaal and added with the Dragonborn expansion. It stands west of Raven Rock, and when you first arrive it is surrounded by citizens of the town who have fallen under Miraak‘s control and are building something around it. Expect to visit early in the main story and come back later to set things right.

What you’ll find

  • The indoctrinated – Bralsa Drel, Rirns Llervu and three Redoran Guards work at the stone around the clock. At night, Raven Rock citizens such as Cindiri Arano, Dreyla Alor, Fethis Alor, Glover Mallory and Milore Ienth wander over and join in.
  • Miraak’s Mantra – the workers chant it and repeat it if you try to talk to them. Conversation is not their strong suit right now.
  • Neloth – the Telvanni wizard is nearby on your first visit, observing the workers, before he returns to Tel Mithryn.
  • Stone blessing – once cleansed, the stone grants the effect Bones of the Earth.

Quests

In the main quest, asking Adril Arano about Miraak eventually points you here. Neloth, busy studying the indoctrinated, then reveals where the Temple of Miraak lies. Later, after you learn the Bend Will shout, Cleansing the Stones sends you back to free this stone and the others from Miraak’s grip.

Tips

Sleeping at The Retching Netch before this stone is cleansed can end with you waking up here and hammering away alongside the locals – amusing once, less so when you have places to be. You can also get your follower to activate the stone; they’ll start working and chanting the mantra too, but a quick shove or attack snaps them out of it. Reportedly, some followers such as Derkeethus skip the chanting.

Good to know

Freeing the stone has visible consequences: all the workers return to Raven Rock, and the three Redoran Guards take up sentry posts on the docks overlooking the town’s harbor. It’s a small but satisfying sign that you’ve actually made a difference.
