Adril Arano is the Second Councilor of Raven Rock, the House Redoran colony on Solstheim in Dragonborn. This Dunmer warrior is usually the first local to size you up when you arrive, and he does not do warm welcomes: newcomers get a curt demand to state their business, a reminder that this is Morrowind and not Skyrim, and a parting promise that someone is watching them. Behind all that frost is a man whose entire life revolves around one job: keeping Councilor Lleril Morvayn alive.
Where to find them
You’ll run into Adril almost as soon as you set foot in Raven Rock. He lives with his wife Cindiri Arano in Morvayn Manor, right next to the man he protects. He is essential, so no matter how prickly your first chat gets, he isn’t going anywhere.
Quests
During the Dragonborn storyline you can ask him about Miraak. Like most islanders he swears the name rings a bell but can’t place it, though he vaguely links it to the Earth Stone.
His big moment is Served Cold, which opens after March of the Dead. Adril is convinced the Ulen family of House Hlaalu has put a deathmark on the councilor as revenge for an execution Morvayn once ordered. Raven Rock is too small for him to snoop without being noticed, so he hands the job to you and points you toward Geldis Sadri at the Retching Netch. If your trail leads to Tilisu Severin, he refuses to kick down any doors without hard proof, but gives you a key to Severin Manor so you can find some. Once the evidence is in, he sends two Redoran guards after the family and expects you to back them up at Ashfallow Citadel. When it’s over, he personally escorts you to the councilor to share the good news, grinning in a way Lleril says he hasn’t seen in ages.
Personality & relationships
Adril and Lleril grew up together and climbed the ranks of House Redoran side by side in Blacklight. When Lleril was sent to run Raven Rock, Adril went along as his second and gave up better prospects at home to do it. The two have saved each other’s lives more than once, and in a quiet talk with Cindiri he calls the councilor the closest thing he has to a brother. Cindiri, for her part, would happily sail home tomorrow, but she knows he will never leave Lleril’s side.
Ask him about politics and you’ll get strong opinions: he has nothing but contempt for House Hlaalu, whom he sees as Empire collaborators, and he credits House Redoran with holding Morrowind together through the Oblivion Crisis and the Argonian invasion. He also has a running headache over supplies, grumbling at the trader Gjalund Salt-Sage when the East Empire Company jacks up prices again.
Good to know
Help Raven Rock enough and his attitude softens noticeably. After Served Cold he treats you with real respect, admitting you succeeded where he fell short, and Cindiri notes that she hasn’t seen her husband this pleased in years.
