Talen-Jei is an Argonian and one of the owners of the Bee and Barb, the main tavern in Riften. He has been head over heels for the bartender Keerava since he first arrived in town, and he has a bar menu of his own creations that he loves to talk about.
Where to find them
Talen-Jei works at the Bee and Barb. He keeps a close eye on customers who wander upstairs or into the basement, which makes sneaky business in the inn noticeably harder.
Quests
Sealing the Deal: Talen-Jei wants to propose to Keerava with a traditional Argonian wedding band and asks you to bring him three flawless amethysts. Two stones stand for the couple, the centre one for the Hist. The reward is a random potion, poison or 200 gold – honestly less than the gems are worth, so do this one for love.
Taking Care of Business: When you collect Keerava’s debt for the Thieves Guild, Talen-Jei tells you to mention her family in Morrowind, begging you not to hurt anyone. He’ll dislike you afterwards until you help with the ring.
Services
He sells food and drink, including his three signature drinks first created when he tended bar in Gideon: Velvet LeChance (blackberry, honey, spiced wine and a dash of nightshade), White-Gold Tower (cream topped with mead, lavender and dragon’s tongue) and the fearsome Cliff Racer. None of them can be crafted.
Personality & relationships
Talen-Jei is polite, warm and fiercely loyal to Keerava; together they dream of saving enough to leave Riften. He despises the Thieves Guild, calling them vermin. Get caught stealing in his inn and he may hire a few thugs to come after you – one of them even carries a contract with his signature. He turns down Hemming Black-Briar‘s insulting job offer with a threat, gently tells Maramal to keep sermons at the temple, and isn’t amused when Bolli jokes about dragons.
