Maramal is a Redguard priest of Mara and one of the most important people in Riften if you’re looking for love. He serves at the Temple of Mara, sells the Amulet of Mara that lets you marry, and conducts the ceremony when the big day comes. He’s earnest, kind-hearted and a little too eager to preach in places where people came to drink.
Where to find them
On your first visit to Riften he is in The Bee and Barb, delivering a sermon nobody asked for. After that he can be found at the Temple of Mara.
Services
Ask about the temple and he’ll explain how marriage works in Skyrim: life is short and harsh, so there’s no long courtship. Someone looking for a partner wears an Amulet of Mara, and once two people agree, one of them comes to the temple to arrange the ceremony. He sells the amulet for 200 gold and reminds you that people respond to good deeds. He’ll also gladly take a 5-gold donation for the temple’s work with the sick and the poor.
Personality & relationships
Maramal is married to Dinya Balu, a fellow servant of Mara, and is overjoyed that she is expecting their child after being told it couldn’t happen. In The Bee and Barb he warns the drinkers that the return of the dragons is a sign of Mara’s displeasure, until Keerava and Talen-Jei ask him to keep the sermons at the temple and let everyone sin in peace. Afterwards he confides to Dinya that people laughed at him again. Bolli credits him with getting him through a rough patch and donates to the temple, much to Nivenor‘s irritation.
Good to know
For a man who rails against drink, he works above a temple basement stocked with kegs and bottles of wine. And if you’ve stolen from the temple without getting caught, he may pay hired thugs to rough you up during your wedding – so maybe keep your hands to yourself in the house of the Goddess of Love.
