Anuriel is a Wood Elf and the steward of Mistveil Keep in Riften, serving Jarl Laila Law-Giver. She will tell you with a perfectly straight face that the rumours of corruption at court are nonsense. A note in her bedroom suggests otherwise.
Where to find them
She works in Mistveil Keep alongside the Jarl, and her bedchamber is in the keep as well. That room holds a letter from Maven Black-Briar about her son Sibbi being kept in jail, which shows Anuriel is quietly on Maven’s payroll.
Quests
- Compelling Tribute – if you’ve sided with the Imperial Legion, you’re sent to blackmail her with that incriminating letter. She pulls you aside, admits it would ruin her, and offers information on a shipment of gold and weapons headed for Windhelm. A good Persuade can squeeze a purse of coin out of her too.
- Thane of the Rift – once you’re Thane, she is the person who sells you a house in Riften. If the Imperials control the city, Hemming Black-Briar becomes steward and handles the sale instead.
- Kill the Dragon – she can send you to slay the dragon at Northwind Summit.
Personality & relationships
Anuriel describes her job as being the link between the Jarl and the people, plus the boring daily business of running the city. She is dismissive of the Thieves Guild, calling it disorganised rabble, and says the city’s resources should go towards defence. When cornered she drops the act: she calls Laila simple and traditional, easy to steer but unforgiving once offended, and admits the war gets in the way of a resourceful woman’s interests. She is in a relationship with Unmid Snow-Shod, the Jarl’s housecarl.
Good to know
She is essential, so whatever you think of her scheming, you can’t remove her the direct way.
