Sibbi Black-Briar is a Nord member of Riften‘s most powerful family. He is the son of Hemming Black-Briar, grandson of Maven Black-Briar and brother of Ingun Black-Briar – and he is currently sitting in jail. Accused of murder, he got just eight months. A note to the jarl’s steward Anuriel suggests Maven is actually grateful to have him locked away.
Where to find them
Sibbi is in Riften Jail. To reach him you need to sweet-talk or bribe the jail guard. His cell is noticeably nicer than everyone else’s, with a proper bed, wardrobe, rug, bookshelves and fresh food, all at Maven’s insistence. In practice he stays locked up for the whole game.
Quests
Promises to Keep: Louis Letrush asks you to steal Sibbi’s horse Frost. Talk to Sibbi and he explains the horse really belongs to the family and tells you where to find the papers – at Black-Briar Lodge.
The Lover’s Requital: Ask why he’s in jail and he asks you to track down Svidi, his former fiancee, who got him locked up after he killed her brother Wulfur. She is hiding in Ivarstead as Lynly Star-Sung. Report back and Sibbi gives you the key to his chest at the Black-Briar Meadery; everything in it is yours to take.
Personality & relationships
Sibbi is smug, bored and convinced he is irresistible – his only flaw, he says, is that women can’t get enough of him. He is also openly vengeful toward Svidi. Meanwhile Svana Far-Shield believes the two of them share a true love, a view her aunt flatly rejects. If you attack or kill another Black-Briar, Sibbi may somehow come after you demanding an apology, jail or not.
Good to know
If you are in jail at the same time, you can pickpocket him with no consequences, which makes him an easy way to train Pickpocket.
