Ungrien is a Bosmer who staffs the tasting counter at the front of the Black-Briar Meadery in Riften. His job description is simple: smile, pour, and say only glowing things about the mead and about Maven Black-Briar‘s way of doing business. Saying anything else could cost him the job, and quite possibly more than that.
Where to find them
By day he stands behind the counter in the meadery. When his shift ends he heads over to Haelga’s Bunkhouse, where he eats and sleeps.

Personality & relationships
Ungrien lives on eggshells. His supervisor Indaryn pushes him around constantly, chewing him out over a spoiled keg and threatening to throw him out among the beggars. Ungrien vents to Tythis Ulen, but refuses to quit: being let go by the Black-Briars, he says, would mean nobody else in town would ever hire him. He also jokes that the three clerks before him are now at the bottom of Lake Honrich, and it is not entirely clear that he is joking.
Good to know
If you kill Indaryn, Ungrien may hire thugs to come after you. After you finish the Thieves Guild questline he may disappear and be replaced at the counter by Romlyn Dreth – and his body is reportedly found in the lake afterwards.
