Stonehills is a little mining camp at the foot of the mountains, southwest of Frostmere Crypt and slightly northwest of the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon. There is not much to it: one cottage, a handful of tents around a campfire and the entrance to Rockwallow Mine, where miners dig out iron ore. Both the camp and the mine belong to Thane Bryling of Solitude, who serves under Jarl Elisif the Fair. Drop by for a smelter, two skill books and a bit of workplace drama.
Residents
- Pactur – manages the camp and lives in the cottage. Depending on how the civil war unfolds, he can later turn up as steward in Morthal.
- Sorli the Builder – Pactur’s wife. She backs the Stormcloak cause and does not think much of Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone.
- Sirgar – their son.
- Jesper, Teeba-Ei, Gestur Rockbreaker and Swanhvir – the miners who work Rockwallow Mine.
What you’ll find
- Sorli’s House, the family cottage.
- Rockwallow Mine, with iron ore to dig.
- A smelter and a grindstone. Six iron ingots lie next to the smelter and four more sit in the back of an abandoned carriage.
- A daily routine you can watch: the miners work underground during the day, then gather around the campfire at night before turning in to their tents.
Quests
- Slow shipments to Bryling – Pactur has a small miscellaneous task for you about the iron deliveries to his employer.
- Mining ore – Gestur Rockbreaker offers the usual mining favor, so you can swing a pickaxe for some coin.
Notable items
- Speech skill book 2920, vol 05 – Second Seed on the mantelpiece in Sorli’s House.
- Heavy Armor skill book Orsinium and the Orcs on the first platform to the right inside Rockwallow Mine.
- Ten iron ingots lying around the camp.
Tips
Stonehills is a handy stop for any smith on a budget: mine some ore, run it through the smelter and you have free ingots on top of the ones already lying about. The ingots by the smelter and in the carriage are an easy grab, but check ownership markers before you pocket anything, since this is a working camp with people watching. Grab both skill books on your way through – they take seconds to find. And if you visit at night, the miners will be relaxing around the fire, which is a nice moment of calm in a very gloomy part of the map.
