Cradlecrush Rock

Lonely giant camp in the pine forest above the White River, southwest of Gallows Rock, where a bad-tempered giant flattens trespassers under a boulder.

Cradlecrush Rock is a giant camp high in the pine forest above the White River. It sits southwest of Gallows Rock and northeast of the Throat of the World. Unlike most giant camps it has no mammoths at all – just one giant who seems to take trespassing personally. Most visitors arrive from the road and the river to the south, climbing a short, steep path that pops out right in the middle of the camp.

What you’ll find

  • A single giant – and judging by the dead animals and the occasional dead necromancer or alchemist lying around, an unusually aggressive one.
  • A bonfire with a cow roasting over it, food around its base and a few pouches of mammoth cheese.
  • An oversized Eidar cheese wheel, bigger than the normal kind.
  • A huge boulder on the west side with skeletons pinned underneath – a pretty clear hint about how this giant handles visitors.
  • A chest beside one of the rocks in the camp.
  • An iron ore vein by the river, west of the camp.

Quests

Cradlecrush Rock can be the target of a Kill the Giant bounty from a Jarl.

Notable items

  • A skeleton at the foot of a boulder wedged between two broken trees, wearing a leveled enchanted helmet, with a knapsack nearby.
  • A skeletal arm sticking out of the same boulder with a ring you can loot from its finger.
  • The camp chest and the iron vein.

Tips

The path up from the river dumps you straight into the giant’s living room, so don’t sprint up it at low health. If you prefer a fight on your own terms, scout from below and soften the giant up with arrows or spells first. Once it’s down, check the boulders carefully – the helmet and the ring are easy to miss. There’s also a small shrine of Talos on the north shore of the pond northeast of the camp if you need a blessing on the way out.

Good to know

Annekke Crag-Jumper can give you directions here and talks about the “Cradlecrush giants” in the plural – even though only one lives here. Either she’s never been, or the other one got flattened too.
