Talking Stone Camp is a giant camp southwest of Morthal. A massive bonfire on the hill gives it away from a long distance, and the area around it is shared by two giants and their mammoths. It is a peaceful-looking scene, right up until someone picks a fight with the livestock.
What you’ll find
- Two giants: one shepherds the mammoths on the lower part of the hill, the other keeps the big fire company up at the top.
- Mammoths grazing on the lower slopes.
- A cove by a waterfall with one of the camp’s chests.
- Bandit trouble: the gang from Orotheim, just to the north, keeps raiding the camp in the hope of bringing down a mammoth for dinner.
Quests
- Kill the Giant – a bounty from the local Jarl can send you here.
- The Break of Dawn – this is one of the places Meridia’s Beacon can turn up.
Notable items
- Two chests with leveled loot: one up in the camp and one in the cove by the waterfall. One of them is Apprentice-locked, the other is open.
Tips
Giants hit absurdly hard at low level, so either come prepared or keep your distance and use ranged attacks. The camp also has a small story attached: clear out the bandits at Orotheim and their raids stop, after which the giants start leading their mammoths down to a nearby stream every few hours – a nice little reward for being a good neighbour. Some players report that fast travelling straight to the camp can freeze the game, so consider arriving on foot from somewhere nearby.
Good to know
The camp makes a natural double bill with Orotheim: the steward in Morthal can hand out a bounty on the bandit leader there, so you can collect a reward and give the giants some peace in the same trip. The Expired Alchemist lies directly east of the camp if you are exploring the area.
