Alchemist’s Shack is a small, tidy hut just off the mountain road that climbs from Ivarstead south toward Helgen. You’ll spot it south of Ivarstead and southwest of Honeystrand Cave. Its owner, a Dunmer alchemist, is no longer around to greet you, which is a shame for him but rather convenient for anyone who needs a bed, a lab and a garden of reagents without paying rent.
What you’ll find
- No enemies inside – just an empty, cosy cabin with a bed and an alchemy lab.
- A small garden and barrels stocked with ingredients: Deathbell, Jazbay Grapes, Nightshade, Blue Mountain Flower, blue butterflies, bird’s nests and spiky grass.
- Indoors and around the house: Fire Salts, Frost Salts, Glow Dust, Frost Mirriam, Blisterwort and Hawk Feathers.
- A barrel of Mora Tapinella, Scaly Pholiota growing on a tree, plus Red and Purple Mountain Flower nearby.
- An apothecary’s satchel with random ingredients and one leveled potion.
Notable items
- Alchemist’s Journal #1 on the end table by the bed – the first chapter of the owner’s mushroom-hunting story.
- A Butterfly in a Jar, the kind of décor every serious alchemist apparently needs.
The alchemist’s story
According to his journal, the Dunmer headed out to gather more mushrooms. Follow the trail and his adventure continues at the Alchemist’s Camp, while the man himself can eventually be found at Evergreen Grove. It is a short, sad little breadcrumb trail – and a good reminder that foraging in the wilderness is a contact sport.
Tips
The ingredients here respawn over time, with the exception of whatever sits on the end table beside the bed. That makes the shack a handy free base for early alchemists: sleep, harvest the garden, brew, repeat. Since it sits right by the road through the pass, it also makes a nice breather between Ivarstead and the southern mountains.
