The Jarl’s Longhouse is the seat of power in Winterhold and home to Jarl Korir, his wife and his son. The town around it has mostly slid into the sea, but the longhouse itself still stands proud and sturdy – a defiant bit of Nord carpentry in a hold that has seen better centuries. Visit to pick up work from the jarl, start your bid for thanehood, or eye up the loot on the shelves.
What you’ll find
- Jarl Korir on his throne, with Thaena and Assur as the rest of the family.
- Steward Malur Seloth, plus Kai Wet-Pommel among the household.
- A single open longhouse with no sublocations – no dungeon, no secret cellar, just a cosy hall.
- If Winterhold changes hands in the Civil War, Kraldar takes over as jarl, with Thonjolf and Legate Sevan Telendas moving in alongside him.
Quests
The jarl’s court is where Thane of Winterhold begins, and you can also pick up radiant jobs here. Given how few people actually live in Winterhold, anything you do for this jarl probably counts double in town gossip.
Notable items
- Twin Secrets – an Enchanting skill book.
- The Grand Staff of Repulsion.
Tips
Both notable items are fair game for a light-fingered visitor, but this is a jarl’s hall, so make sure nobody is watching before you pocket anything. The College of Winterhold is right next door, which makes the longhouse a handy first stop before crossing the bridge – and a useful reminder that the townsfolk aren’t exactly fans of the mages. Keep that in mind when choosing your dialogue.
Good to know
Even though Winterhold is an open town rather than a walled city, the longhouse plays the same stately palace music you hear in the big jarls’ halls – a small touch that makes Korir’s court feel a bit grander than the ruins outside suggest.
