Margret is a Nord woman who shows up in Markarth claiming to be a tourist from the Imperial City, shopping for jewellery for her sister. That cover story doesn’t last long, mostly because someone tries to stab her within seconds of your arrival.
Where to find them
She is in the market when you first enter the city, browsing Kerah‘s stall. If she survives, she can be found by the fireplace at the Silver-Blood Inn, where she has rented the most expensive room for a month.
Quests
Margret’s attack is the opening scene of The Forsworn Conspiracy. Weylin rushes her with a dagger. Stop him in time and she thanks you with a piece of jewellery she meant for her sister. Either way, Eltrys soon asks you to dig into why she was targeted.
The answer is in her room at the inn. You can take the key from her body if she died, pickpocket it from Kleppr, or just pick the lock. Inside, her journal reveals that she is an undercover operative for General Tullius and the Imperial Legion. She was sent to investigate the Silver-Blood family and the treasury house, hoping to prise Cidhna Mine away from them so its silver couldn’t reach the Stormcloaks and its dangerous prisoners stayed locked up. If she is alive, you can simply confront her at the inn. Once questioned, she plans to leave.
Personality & relationships
In public she plays the friendly, slightly clueless visitor who has only vaguely heard of the Forsworn. Kerah describes her as a kind woman who came by every day looking for gifts for her family back in Cyrodiil.
