Falion is a Redguard mage who has made his home in Morthal, much to the town’s discomfort. He used to be the master of Conjuration at the College of Winterhold, a post now held by his former pupil Phinis Gestor. According to Phinis, Falion left because he hated answering to Arch-Mage Savos Aren and didn’t like the direction the College was going.
Because he dabbles openly in necromancy, the locals accuse him of everything from sacrificing children to eating the hearts of the dead. Falion would very much like everyone to stop.
Where to find them
He spends his time at his house in Morthal or wandering around town. At night he sometimes slips out into the marsh.
Quests
Falion’s Secret: Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone mentions strange rumours about his nightly habits. Wait outside his house until around 1 AM and you can follow him into the marsh to the Summoning Stones. He is startled to be caught. You can squeeze 200 gold out of him by threatening to tell the Jarl, or promise to keep quiet, which he appreciates. Reporting back to Idgrod leads her to keep a very close eye on him from then on.
Rising at Dawn: if you catch vampirism, any innkeeper (or a member of the Dawnguard, with Dawnguard) will point you to Falion. He can cure you if you bring him a Black Soul Gem filled with a grand soul, which in practice means the soul of a dead person. He then performs the ritual at the Summoning Stones. It works as often as you need it, and if you lack a gem he will sell you an empty one for roughly 500 to 700 gold.
Services
Falion trains Conjuration at master level and sells spell tomes from every school of magic, mage robes and soul gems, including Black Soul Gems. Steal from him and he may send hired thugs after you.
Personality & relationships
On first meeting he is prickly, launching into a rant about the slander he puts up with, but he calms down once he sees you aren’t there to harass him. He insists he keeps to himself and that his talents actually help keep Morthal safe. He is the brother of the innkeeper Jonna and the adoptive guardian of the orphan Agni, whom he is training in magic, though he firmly refuses to let her go to the College. Both Agni and Joric seem to have unsettling premonitions about him. Phinis notes that most conjurers practise in secret, but Falion is the only one who is public about it.
Good to know
(Dawnguard) If you persuade Serana to give up her vampirism, Falion is the one who cures her.
