Falion’s Secret is a small investigation in Morthal, the misty town of Hjaalmarch. Rumours about the town’s resident wizard, Falion, and his night-time habits have reached Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone, and she would like someone to look into them. Whether you end up as his accomplice or his accuser is up to you.
How to start
- Speak to Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone in Highmoon Hall in Morthal. She mentions the strange stories about Falion’s nightly excursions.
- Around town you may also overhear Falion talking with his adopted daughter Agni, who tells him she dreamed of him fighting monsters while she slept.
Walkthrough
Follow Falion to the summoning circle
Wait outside Falion’s house until 1:00 AM. He leaves home and heads out into the marshes around Morthal. Tail him at a distance; he leads you to what looks like a summoning circle in the swamp.
Talk to Falion
Approach and speak to him. Falion is not pleased to have been followed and makes it clear he is not sacrificing children or eating hearts; he only wants to be left alone with his research. He offers you 200 gold to keep quiet about what you have seen.
Inform the Jarl (optional)
Instead of keeping his secret, you can go back to the jarl and tell her what you saw. Idgrod says she already had a vision of this, then goes to find Falion and confronts him in person, warning him of serious consequences if he carries on. The exact scene depends on who rules Morthal; if Sorli the Builder has taken over after the Civil War, she bluntly tells him she does not want to know what he is up to and threatens him with jail if it happens again.
Choices and consequences
- Keep quiet: agree not to mention his activities and Falion pays you 200 gold.
- Report him: the jarl confronts Falion publicly and warns him off. The source does not mention a separate reward for reporting him.
Rewards
- 200 gold from Falion if you agree to stay silent.
Tips and notes
- Use the Wait feature outside Falion’s house to reach 1:00 AM rather than standing around for hours.
- Falion is also the conjurer who can cure vampirism, so staying on good terms with him has practical value.
- Details of how the jarl confrontation plays out under each possible ruler are incomplete in the available sources.
