Thonar Silver-Blood is a Nord in Markarth and the man who actually runs the Silver-Blood family’s business. His older brother Thongvor is officially the head of the family and handles politics at court, but Thonar controls the money – which makes him the more powerful of the two. The family owns the Treasury House, Cidhna Mine, the Silver-Blood Inn and plenty of land that local owners were bullied into selling.
Where to find them
He works in the Treasury House, guarded by the receptionist Rhiada, who tells visitors he’s not to be disturbed.
Quests
The Forsworn Conspiracy: Margret‘s journal points to Thonar. Whatever you say to him, his own servants Nana Ildene and Donnel reveal themselves as Forsworn and kill his wife Betrid. Grieving and furious, Thonar admits the truth: after the uprising was crushed, he spared Madanach from execution in exchange for the King in Rags using the Forsworn to remove his competitors and other nuisances. Now the arrangement is out of control – and Thonar blames you for poking at it.
Before that confession, he’s openly hostile: he guesses you’re another Imperial snoop sent after Margret, boasts that he owns the mines and decides whose palms get greased, and doesn’t deny sending a guard to warn you off – in his view the guards know exactly who pays them.
No One Escapes Cidhna Mine: that blame lands you in his prison. Fight your way out and he is waiting at the exit, reacting to what you did inside. If you dealt with Madanach for him, he arranges your pardon, returns your belongings and hands over the Silver-Blood Family Ring – then excuses himself, since he now has a mine to refill with workers.
Personality & relationships
Thonar is cold, proud and blunt: he considers the whole city his, and every prisoner just another worker. His marriage to Betrid is a constant sniping match – she married him for the money and keeps pushing him to take over from Thongvor. He also has to keep the peace between Mulush and Nepos to keep the silver flowing. If Rhiada survives, he flirts with her rather obviously.
Good to know
He is essential until No One Escapes Cidhna Mine is complete; after that he can die, and you may receive an inheritance. The game files list Lisbet as his lover, though nothing in game shows it.
