Anton Virane is a Breton cook who runs the kitchen of Understone Keep in Markarth. He hails from Daggerfall in High Rock, trained under the famous chef known as the Gourmet, and keeps a signed copy of the cookbook Uncommon Taste by his bed. He would very much like you to know that he is not a Reachman.

Anton works in the keep’s kitchen, barking orders at his two helpers, Voada and Rondach.
Quests
Recipe for Disaster (Dark Brotherhood) – because he knows the Gourmet personally, you are sent to squeeze him for the chef’s whereabouts. At first he swears he’ll take the secret to his grave, but a little intimidation changes his mind fast: the Gourmet is an Orc named Balagog gro-Nolob, staying at the Nightgate Inn. You can then let him go or tie up the loose end. If you spare him, Festus Krex will point out that Anton is still breathing and send you back to finish the job. He is essential until this quest.

Personality & relationships
Anton is homesick, overworked and very proud. He looks down on the Reach natives as savages, sneers at their cooking, and reminds anyone who’ll listen that Bretons practically invented politics in the courts of Daggerfall. His assistants get the worst of it: he once threatens Voada over laundry water in the soup, and Rondach snaps back that Anton’s fingers would go missing first. Anton mostly complains that the Jarl gave him two useless helpers and a whole castle to feed.
