Dragon Bridge

Small village on the Karth River between Solitude and Markarth, named after its ancient dragon-headed bridge, with an inn, a lumber mill and the Penitus Oculatus outpost.

Dragon Bridge is a small village on the Karth River, sitting on the main road between Solitude and Markarth, southwest of the Solitude Sawmill. Its claim to fame is the bridge itself: an ancient stone span across the river with a massive dragon head carved into the arch over the road. From the bridge you can make out Solitude’s towers in the distance above the river mouth. The village lives off lumber, which it sends to Solitude, and it falls under that city’s control.

What you’ll find

  • The Dragon Bridge: the old Nord bridge that gave the village its name. Its dragon skulls are thought to be either carved stone or the petrified remains of real dragons.
  • Four Shields Tavern: the village inn, owned by Faida.
  • Dragon Bridge Lumber Camp: right after you cross the bridge into town, owned by Horgeir. The sawmill by the river can be used, and there is a wood chopping block outside (bring your own axe).
  • Penitus Oculatus Outpost: the only outpost in Skyrim of the Emperor’s elite guard, the Penitus Oculatus.
  • Lylvieve Family’s House: the northernmost building, with wheat, cabbage and a grain mill out back.
  • Horgeir’s House: between the Lylvieve house and the outpost, with a cooking pot by the fire.

Residents

The locals are the Lylvieve family (Azzada, Michel, Clinton and Julienne), innkeeper Faida, Horgeir and Olda, Lodvar, Lucky and Varnius Junius. During the Dark Brotherhood storyline you will also meet Gaius Maro, Commander Maro and a number of Penitus Oculatus agents.

Quests

  • Breaching Security – the Brotherhood sends you after Gaius Maro, and his schedule can be found inside the Penitus Oculatus Outpost.
  • Destroy the Dark Brotherhood! – Commander Maro turns up at the outpost.
  • A False Front (Stormcloaks) – ask Faida at the tavern about the Imperial courier.
  • Prophet (Dawnguard) – a note pointing to the Moth Priest lies on the road just south of the bridge.
  • Varnius Junius reports trouble in nearby Wolfskull Cave, which leads to The Man Who Cried Wolf.
  • Also tied to the village: Dragon’s Breath Mead, innkeeper rumors and Liberation of Skyrim.

Nearby

A Stormcloak camp sits northeast along the river, the Forsworn hold Dragon Bridge Overlook on the hills to the south, and Meeko’s Shack lies far to the east, home to a loyal dog who would love to tag along.

Tips

Snooping through the Penitus Oculatus Outpost before Breaching Security just gets you politely pointed to the tavern, and stealing from it may earn you a visit from hired thugs. Keep your hands to yourself there – the Emperor’s bodyguards are not the forgiving type.
