Meeko’s Shack is a tiny, sad little hut east of Dragon Bridge and south of the Solitude Sawmill. On paper it is nothing special: one room, one bed, one table. What makes it memorable is who lives there. The dog Meeko roams the surrounding woods, and if he spots you he will bark and lead you straight back here, to the owner he lost. Most players come for the dog and leave with a new best friend.
What you’ll find
- Meeko himself, usually wandering somewhere near the shack. Follow him and he guides you to the door, then whines over his late master. This is where you can recruit him as a follower.
- A dead Nord lying on the bed. He never gets a name – the shack is named after the dog instead, which tells you who the real head of household was.
- A small table at the foot of the bed with a lantern, some bread and a one-page journal. The journal explains that the owner died of Rockjoint and mentions Meeko.
- Nothing inside is marked as owned, so you can take whatever you like without it counting as theft.
Notable items
- Speech skill book A Dance in Fire, Book VI.
- The owner’s journal, which is the closest thing this place has to a story.
Tips
Read the journal before you leave – it only takes a moment and it gives the whole scene its quiet weight. If you take Meeko along and later tell him to go home, he will whine about it, so maybe let the good boy stay. If you park him somewhere and wander off for three days or more, he will give up waiting and head back to the shack, so this is the first place to look if your dog goes missing. Pick up the skill book while you are here; free Speech progress never hurts.
Good to know
Return after Meeko has joined you and the dead Nord and his bed will have vanished. Necromancers take note: if you raise the owner with an ordinary reanimation spell or staff, he does not crumble to ash afterwards, much as if you had used Dead Thrall.
