Windpeak Inn is the local inn of Dawnstar, the snowy port on Skyrim’s northern coast. Walk in for the first time and you will find a group of exhausted locals complaining to the priest Erandur about the terrible dreams they keep having. Grab a bed if you dare – sleep is apparently not this town’s strong suit.
What you’ll find
- Thoring owns the inn and handles rooms and food.
- His daughter Karita provides the music as resident bard.
- Abelone works as the maid.
- Beds for rent inside and a grindstone outdoors for sharpening your weapons.
Quests
- Waking Nightmare – starts automatically on your first visit when you overhear the dream discussion. Talk to Erandur to follow up.
- Rise in the East – part of this quest plays out here.
- Thoring hands out miscellaneous bounty jobs if you ask him for work.
Residents
This is very much a family business: Thoring owns the place and keeps it running, Karita plays and sings for the guests, and Abelone keeps the rooms in order. On your first visit the common room also holds the dream-plagued townsfolk and Erandur, who has his own reasons for taking their nightmares seriously.
Tips
Use the outdoor grindstone before heading off on Thoring’s bounties – Dawnstar is a long way from the nearest blacksmith-heavy city. Reportedly, everything in the large bedroom can be taken freely except the broom and the bucket, so light-fingered adventurers can help themselves without a bounty. If Stig Salt-Plank and his crew are still loitering here after Rise in the East and only mumble generic lines, that is a known bug, not a new quest.
Good to know
There is a wooden bowl and a tankard tucked inside one of the guestroom walls, visible only if you clip through it. Someone in Dawnstar clearly had a very bad night.
