“Prophet” is the Dawnguard-side version of the hunt for the Moth Priest. Serana turns up at Fort Dawnguard with a warning about her father, and the only person who can read her Elder Scroll has gone missing on the road. (Sided with the vampires? See Prophet (Vampire).)
How it starts
After A New Order, Isran calls you upstairs. Serana has fled to the fort: Harkon wants to fulfil an Elder Scroll prophecy that would give vampires power over the sun. She carries one of the scrolls, but only a trained Moth Priest can read it. Isran lets her stay – as long as she doesn’t touch anyone.
Serana offers to come along if you travel without another follower. Leave her behind and she simply waits at the fort.
Walkthrough
Finding the Moth Priest’s trail
Any of these will point you to Dragon Bridge:
- Carriage drivers outside the cities (sometimes after some persuasion or a bribe).
- Innkeepers, who heard he passed through on his way to Dragon Bridge.
- Urag gro-Shub at the College of Winterhold, who says the priest studied there before leaving.
Dragon Bridge and the ambush
In Dragon Bridge, ask the guards or the boy Clinton Lylvieve – the priest’s escort crossed the bridge and headed south. A group of vampires may jump you here; the guards will help. Follow the road south to find the wrecked carriage. A Vampire’s Note on one of the dead vampires says the priest was taken to Forebears’ Holdout, which now appears on your map in Haafingar.
Forebears’ Holdout
- Head left after entering the cave and fight (or sneak) past death hounds and vampires.
- Cross to the main structure and climb to the upper platform. The Moth Priest, Dexion Evicus, is trapped inside a magical barrier.
- Deal with the Orc vampire Malkus, who holds the Weystone Focus. Kill him and loot it – or, if you’re feeling sneaky, pickpocket it and let him live.
- Place the Weystone on the altar above the barrier.
- Dexion is still under the vampires’ thrall and attacks. Beat him down and he comes to his senses, thanks you and sets off for Fort Dawnguard.
The reading
Report to Isran, then have Dexion read the scroll with Serana present. He sees a vision of Auriel’s Bow and hears a voice speaking of a dread lord of the night. To understand the full prophecy, two more Elder Scrolls are needed: one about the ancient secrets of dragons and one about the potency of ancient blood. That kicks off Scroll Scouting, Seeking Disclosure and Chasing Echoes.
Rewards and aftermath
- Several Dawnguard members – Agmaer, Celann, Durak, Beleval and Ingjard – become available afterwards.
- Durak makes you Blood-Kin, which opens every Orc stronghold to you.
- Before the reading you can talk to Sorine to start the recruitment of Florentius Baenius, who can then attend.
