Windhelm Stables sits just outside the gates of Windhelm. It’s the place to pick up a horse in this corner of Skyrim, and it’s also where the city’s carriage driver waits for passengers. Whether you want your own ride or just a quick trip somewhere else, this is your first stop when leaving town.
What you’ll find
- A horse for sale: a bay with a white blaze and white socks.
- Alfarinn, Windhelm’s carriage driver.
- Ulundil and Arivanya, who can also be found here.
- A copy of The Wolf Queen, Book III.
Notable items
- The Wolf Queen, Book III
Tips
The horse costs 1,000 gold, just like at every other stable. All of Skyrim’s stable horses have identical stats, so the only real difference between them is the colour – pick the one you like the look of. If you prefer another coat, the other stables each sell their own:
- Markarth Stables – pinto
- Riften Stables – dapple grey
- Solitude Stables – palomino
- Whiterun Stables – black
Not sure you need a horse? Alfarinn’s carriage lets you sit back while someone else does the driving, while a horse is the better pick for roaming the wilderness between towns at your own pace.
Good to know
Players occasionally report that parts of the stable and the house fail to appear, leaving you able to walk under where they should be. Going into Windhelm and back out again usually brings them back.
