Saering’s Watch

The only dragon lair on Solstheim, in the island’s north, where a dragon and draugr guard the Bend Will Word Wall needed for The Fate of the Skaal.

Saering’s Watch is a dragon lair on the northern side of Solstheim, added with the Dragonborn expansion – and the only dragon lair on the whole island. Perched on top is a Word Wall for Bend Will, which makes this a mandatory stop in the main questline. Expect company of the scaly and the undead variety.

What you’ll find

  • A leveled dragon circling the lair.
  • A few leveled draugr around the site.
  • The Bend Will Word Wall at the top.
  • Several chests with assorted loot, one just right of the Word Wall.
  • Up the stairs to the northwest, a tent with a table holding several soul gems and potions.

Quests

  • The Fate of the Skaal – to free the Skaal from their trance, you must learn Bend Will here and use it on the Wind Stone to break its barrier.
  • Radiant dragon-slaying jobs from the Blades can send you here.
  • Dragon Seekers, given by Farkas or Vilkas, can also point you to this lair.

Notable items

  • Word Wall: Bend Will.
  • Soul gems and potions in the tent up the northwest stairs.
  • Several loot chests, including one beside the Word Wall.

Tips

If your Sneak is high, there is a lovely lazy option: settle on the mountain overlooking the lair and let the dragon and the draugr fight each other. The dragon tends to wear itself down killing them, and in rare cases it dies outright, leaving you to mop up the leftover draugr. Either way, grab the soul gems in the tent before heading back south – you will be glad of them. And if a radiant job sent you here, you get to tick off a Blades or Companions contract and a Word Wall in the same afternoon.

Good to know

Because Saering’s Watch is the island’s only dragon lair, it is also where many players get their first proper look at a dragon on Solstheim. Learning Bend Will here is not optional – the main story cannot move forward until the Wind Stone barrier is broken.
