Bujold’s Retreat

Small camp where Bujold the Unworthy and the exiled crew of Thirsk Mead Hall wait after rieklings drove them out – and where Retaking Thirsk begins.

Bujold’s Retreat is a modest camp on Solstheim, added with the Dragonborn expansion. It is home – for now – to the former residents of Thirsk Mead Hall, who fled after a tribe of rieklings took their hall. You come here if you want to help the Nords get their mead hall back, or simply to meet the crew that lost it.

What you’ll find

  • Bujold the Unworthy – the leader of the Thirsk crew, and the person to talk to.
  • Kuvar – a Thirsk member and Bujold’s husband.
  • Elmus, Halbarn Iron-Fur and Hilund – the rest of the displaced Thirsk members.
  • No dungeon, no boss – just a group of homeless warriors and the awkward silence of people who haven’t tried very hard to get their home back.

Quests

Speak with Bujold and she’ll explain how the rieklings overran Thirsk Mead Hall and that her crew has been camping here ever since without attempting a counterattack. Offer to help and the quest Retaking Thirsk starts. Be aware that taking it on automatically fails The Chief of Thirsk Hall, so the two paths are mutually exclusive – choose which version of Thirsk you’d rather see.

Tips

Decide before you speak to Bujold. If you’d rather deal with Thirsk Mead Hall and its current occupants another way, avoid accepting her offer, because the other quest is gone the moment Retaking Thirsk starts. If you do side with Bujold, the camp is a good place to check in on the crew before heading off, as you’ll be seeing more of them during the quest.

Don’t get too attached to the campfire: once Retaking Thirsk is completed, the group moves on, the camp is abandoned and even its map marker disappears. If you want to remember how the crew lived in exile, take a look around before you finish the job.

Good to know

The name says a lot about the leader – being called “the Unworthy” while hiding from rieklings is not exactly a ringing endorsement. Helping her is, among other things, a chance to see whether she can earn a better nickname.
