Lod is the blacksmith of Falkreath, a Nord who once served for years as the personal guard of the old Jarl, Dengeir of Stuhn. Loyalty is his favourite subject, and he will happily tell you that it beats good steel – which, coming from a smith, is quite the statement.
Where to find them
At his forge in Falkreath during the day; he lives in Lod’s House in town.
Quests
A stray dog – the first time you talk to him he asks whether you’ve seen a big, sturdy hound wandering the road outside town. He’d like the dog as a loyal companion but can’t chase it himself, so he gives you some fresh meat to lure it in (persuade him and you get part of the gold up front). Follow the road west out of town and you’ll meet the dog, who is in fact Barbas – and who leads straight into the Daedric quest A Daedra’s Best Friend. Report back afterwards and Lod hands over a small reward, conceding the dog was more trouble than he was worth.
Some Light Theft – Lod is also on the receiving end of a quest: Dengeir is sure the blacksmith is writing to the Imperials and sends you to steal a letter from his house.
Services
He is Falkreath’s blacksmith, so his forge is the place in town to trade smithing goods and gear.
Personality & relationships
Lod says he’s loyal to Dengeir first and the Empire second, and that he risked his hide guarding him not for money or an oath but because Dengeir was a good man and a true friend. The irony is that Dengeir suspects him of being an Imperial spy. Lod also takes a grim view of the war, saying it is bleeding Skyrim dry, and warns that most of the hold outside the town walls is wild and dangerous.
Good to know
- Killing Lod means A Daedra’s Best Friend can’t start through him.
- The game files list Gunnar Stone-Eye as his brother, but this never comes up in play.
